Janet Price Obituary

Janet Shepard Price went to meet her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Friday, December 22, 2023. Although she will be greatly missed, she is survived by her three sons and one daughter, six grandsons, and three great-grandchildren. Throughout Janet's life, she accomplished a great number of achievements considering her humble beginnings as a sharecropper's daughter born at home in Cross County, Arkansas to her proud parents, Burley and Alma Jane Shepard. She lost her mom to cancer at a young age and was forced to abandon her schooling in the 6th grade to take care of her one-year-old baby sister. At the age of 36, Janet completed her high school education, received her GED, and spoke at her graduation ceremony as valedictorian. In the early 1980s, she was the lead pregnancy counselor at Sav-A-Life, which aided young women in choosing life for their unborn children. As head coordinator and chairwoman of the Tuscaloosa, Alabama chapter of Eagle Forum, Janet worked with Eagle Forum's founder Phyllis Schlafly in bringing conservative, Constitutional views and family-first standards to the forefront of various national and state political issues. One of Janet's favorite activities was teaching Sunday School, which began in her early 20s and continued off-and-on for the rest of her life until she became bedridden. Early in the morning, it was not uncommon to find Janet up reading the Scriptures and praying for her family, church, our nation, our military, and various parts of the world. Her favorite scripture was 1 Corinthians 13:13: "Now these three remain: faith, hope, and love but the greatest of these is love."

Mrs. Price was best known for her LOVE. Through love, she became the "Mom" many never had, a comfort when one's grief was at its darkest, a nonjudgmental ear when one just needed to get an injustice off their chest, and a voice of wisdom in the midst of confusion and doubt. She rejoiced with you when you had something to celebrate and cried with you when you were hurting. She was the friend you needed when the whole world seemed to stand against you while reminding you of FatherGod's faithfulness, lovingkindness, and goodness. Even in her very painful last few months in hospice, she never spoke harshly to any aide or nurse regardless of the amount of pain she was experiencing. Janet loved all who came near her and always demonstrated kindness and gentleness. Mrs. Janet was the very best of what a "Mom" ought to be... LOVE.
