Richard Crowley Obituary

Mr. Richard Leon Whinery Crowley passed on July 22, 2022, at The Crossing at Riverside Health and Rehab. Richard Leon Whinery Crowley was born at Rogers, Arkansas on November 11, 1937, to Jesse Leon Whinery and Willamina Bertha Gorges Whinery. When Richard was six months old, his parents divorced. When he was 4 years old, his mother met and married Sherman Crowley, who moved his new family to Patterson, Missouri, where his home was. Richard grew to adulthood there. He lived with his parents until his early 20’s.
At the age of 13, he gave his heart to Jesus Christ and began his witness for HIM. At the age of 18, he signed up for the draft and was told he had carried the name of Crowley for over 10 years, so it was now his legal name. After two years and a tour of France, he was released from the Army and was in the Army active Reserve Unit. Later in his life he joined the Arkansas Army National Guard.
After surrendering to the call to preach in 1965, he began his life as a bi-vocational minister. After serving the Lord for two years, he felt he needed to add to his education in order to better serve.
He was accepted into the three-year Theological Program at Southern Baptist College in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas. At the beginning of his third and final year of study, he met and fell in love with Agnes Gilley who arrived on campus as a freshman. After dating throughout the school year, they were married on May 31, 1970. God blessed their union with two children, Jesse Andrew Crowley and Tressa Jane (Crowley) Hobbs. Then blessed again by giving them 13 grandchildren……Alyssa Milan Crowley, Abigail Makala Hobbs, David Andrew, Rebekah JoAnn, Jonathon Michael and Rachel Elizabeth Crowley, Robert Charles Hobbs, Elizabeth Jewel Hobbs, Katherine Grace Hobbs, Laran Faith Hobbs. Also, David, Jared, and Rachel Jessica Wilson!
Richard is preceded in Death by his parents and several siblings whom he never knew. Also by his first granddaughter, Alyssa!
He’s survived by his wife of 52 years, Agnes J. Crowley, his two children, their spouses, Rebecca (Wilson) Crowley; Charles Edward Hobbs and 12 of his precious grandchildren! one great grandchild, Corbin Ranger. Also, one sister, Betty Tibbs, of St. Charles, Missouri, and several nieces and nephews.
